Essential Point:
The Romantic Relationship is an intensification of the Essential Purpose of all Relationships, which is to be a Mirror for one another to Dissolve the “Other” and to come into Oneness with Life. At the same time, the Romantic Relationship also carries the potential to serve as a Vehicle through which you may experience the fruits of your Humanness, in a Nonattached way.
Overview:
Love is what you are, and to Love one thing is to Love the One thing, which is No-thing, which is all things. In this sense, True Love is unconditional and unselective in that it is not contingent, exclusive or Special – You do not Love one thing more than another, most simply because you Realize that there is no “Other.” To this point, True Love is the Realization of Oneness.
This is why, when it comes to Romantic Love, people often get confused and pulled back into Ego Love mistakenly. You get pulled back into the Ego when you Believe a Person is “Special” so that you Attach to their Specialness and derive your sense of Identity through them.
It is most Wise to view Romantic Love as nothing more than True Love with Fulfillment on the level of Human as well as True Love’s more foundational Fulfillment on the level of Being. one another to help each other Heal and progress on the Awakening Journey.
Romantic Love could perhaps be best described as in an intensification or specification of True Love, with the ability to also Fulfill you on your lower Human level, but the Essential purpose of the Relationship remains the same, which is to be a Mirror for the other to dissolve the “other.”
And, like Nature, the Romantic Relationship has the Power to be a more Pure Mirror to better facilitate this Healing along the Awakening Journey. This is so because in the Romantic Relationship you often have more opportunity and willingness to become vulnerable, which is to bring your Darker Egoic qualities to Light. And only when the Ego is Observed can it Dissolve so that you can Heal.
Over enough time with a single Person the areas of Egoic Unconsciousness will almost undoubtedly always come to the surface. This is the primary reason why after “the Honeymoon Period,” which perhaps is better described as the “Ego Hiding Period” many Relationships end because the Ego is revealed.
If you are Consciously aligned with your partner on the Essential Purpose of the Relationship, however, you can Interpret the Ego Residue in yourself and the other as golden opportunities to Heal and Grow together. When this is the case, not only do Relationships remain intact through Challenges, but the Bond may grow stronger. If the Awareness isn’t there however, the Unconsciousness will continue to feed on itself until the Relationship spirals into implosion.
Thus, you must be careful not to deem any specific Person as Special, as to believe that they possess certain Special Powers that make you Complete, Fulfilled, or otherwise Whole – hence the “you complete me” attitude so common among Romantic Partners today – but no, you are already complete, and the Essential purpose of the Romantic Relationship is to help you to Realize this more fully.
As soon as you view another Person as “Special,” The Relationship is rooted in Egoic Attachment and all True Love is covered up by the Mind. Now the Relationship is a Conditional Transaction, which is no Real Relationship at all. Should the Ego creep in to serve as the Foundation of the Relationship, Conditions are inherently imposed so that your Value to the other comes from your Specialness, not from your Beingness. Stop being “Special,” and your Value is gone.
This is a recipe for disaster and why so many Romantic Relationships end up failing – Expectations and Conditions were placed on the other, and when they are not Fulfilled and or maintained, you are “let down,” which results in your subsequent Suffering and unhappiness. This is the precipitating sequence of events in Ego-based Relationships that so often leads to Dissatisfaction, Divorce, and even violence.
In Awakened Relationships, on the other hand, both parties are Aware of and connected with their Essential Being and therefore Know, beyond any doubt, that they are already complete. They do not need the other for their completion, and thus the Energy of Love can flow freely and their Humaneness is appreciated and enjoyed and while the Fundamental Purpose of the Union is acknowledged as to rise in Consciousness and therefore to rise in Love as to become One with Life and each other.
